No
matter where you choose to fish between South Florida and the Keys, you
will not be disappointed.
There
are so many options in the areas I fish, from Flamingo, Everglades
National Park, Biscayne Bay, nighttime in Miami and the Keys, you
can’t go wrong. Even if there are high winds or tough weather
conditions, my experience and versatility will enable you to
have the best
shot you can.

FLAMINGO- EVERGLADES
NATIONAL PARK
This is personally my favorite place to fish due to the variety of
fish and wildlife and the lack of other people. Flamingo is
located two hours southwest of Miami and is more than worth the
drive. The bird life and other wildlife alone are enough.
On an average day fishing out of Flamingo you will see ospreys,
roseate spoonbills, flamingos, bald eagles, herons, egrets, owls
and, of course, those pesky pelicans. From a wildlife
standpoint you might see deer, wild boars, raccoons, rattlesnakes,
bobcats, manatees, dolphins, alligators and crocodiles. The
Everglades is actually the only place in the United States where
crocodiles and flamingos exist in the wild. As for the fish,
Flamingo houses quite an impressive list: tarpon, snook,
redfish, trout, bonefish, permit, black drum, largemouth bass,
cobia, mackeral, mangrove snapper, jewfish, gag grouper,
barracudas, ladyfish, jack crevalle and a wide variety of sharks.
Fishing here is a great choice for the advanced or beginner angler
due to the wide variety of fish, and there are excellent
opportunities for both live bait and fly fishing. |

BISCAYNE BAY
Biscayne Bay actually borders downtown Miami and runs south to Key
Largo. This offers a few meeting points that are all very
easily accessible. If you are limited on time this might be
the thing for you. In Biscayne Bay there is some
of the best sightfishing around for bonefish, permit, tarpon and
big barracuda. If you are looking to just bend a rod, kick
back and relax, you can also do that with mangrove snappers,
mutton snappers, mackeral, jack crevalle, sea trout and other
assorted species. |

NIGHTTIME TARPON FISHING
The nighttime tarpon fishing is exciting because I do it by
sightfishing. Even though it’s nighttime, the fish
feed under bright lights and you just wait for them to swim by and
then throw your fly or bait in front of them. Many people
have caught their first tarpon fishing with me by doing this.
I usually like to meet on South Beach for this type of fishing, so
this another plus if you are limited on time |

THE KEYS
In the Keys I fish out of Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big
Pine Key and points between these Keys. The fishing in Key
Largo is much like Biscayne Bay, in that it offers good tarpon and
bonefishing. In Islamorada we have the option of fishing the
Oceanside for tarpon or bonefish, and we can run over to Flamingo
from Islamorada which opens up a bunch of other opportunities.
As for the mid to lower Keys, which includes Marathon and Big Pine
Key, this is a great area to sightfish for bonefish, permit and
tarpon. In this area I only offer multiple day trips due to
the remoteness of this area. This area is beautiful and
usually there aren’t many other people fishing here which makes
it a great getaway. |
